Is it just me…
March 6th, 2007 by John

Call me odd [wait for it], but does the name “Constant Comment” evoke thoughts of that taste you get in your mouth after a good belch…that little reminder of your last meal?

I’ve tried this tea, and it’s fine. But once is enough.

Yes, I do realize that I still owe more photos from Paris. Yes, I’m killing time. Yes, my ruminations on tea names is less interesting than Notre Dame or Versailles.

*URP* (Excuse me.)

Evil flowers and the feline invader…
March 4th, 2007 by John

Well, the good news is that this weekend was delightful. The sun shined brightly both Saturday and Sunday, and it even got warm today. Today was also my first allergy day of the year…and it was a doozy. Yes, the garden looked all pretty with fresh buds, but there was a definitely dark side…and it was dusted with yellow pollen.

Still, a couple of Jeff’s orchids were just bursting with blooms. (I misted this one with the hose…just a little artistic license.)

Jeff spent most of the day in the garden, while I assembled our new wine rack, tidied the basement a bit, and completed our lightwell with a deep-blue planter. While Jeff was out back, he was visited by a cat from some neighboring yard. (He liked Jeff…he did NOT like me.)

On Saturday, we ventured over to Crissy Field for a lunch in the sunshine and a walk along the shore. I thought this photo of some of the zillion boats out this weekend might make Curt smile. Although, if you look closely enough, you’ll notice that these boats aren’t actually moving. In fact, they were drifting backwards as the tide exited the Bay. I’m sure a good breeze came along eventually.

Useless signs…
February 28th, 2007 by John

This sign annoys me for two reasons. First, it annoys me because you can’t read it in this photo. No, its not the sign’s fault…its just an artifact from the Treo…and that I was driving when I took this. Soooo, really its the Treo that I’m ranting about. (Yes, I should have my real camera at the ready.)

But still…I took this shot in the hopes of highlighting a STUPID SIGN. This one says “BROADWAY AT MONTGOMERY MAY BE CLOSED”. (This is due to a landslide in the city yesterday morning.) But really…as a driver…what should I do with this? I either avoid Broadway or not, but I think some more up to date info would be helpful.

STUPID.

[UPDATE: I snapped this shot a couple of days later with a real camera. Just for reference on this riveting topic.]

Raindrops and elderberries and banana slugs…
February 25th, 2007 by John

This weekend, I had the pleasure of leading a group of coworkers into Muir Woods National Monument to assist with ongoing habitat restoration. The one-ness with Nature was greatly enhanced by the near-constant drizzle that doused us all morning. In all, our group transplanted over 700 native plants (including the aforementioned elderberry…there is a Monty Python joke in there…but I’ll leave it be).

We were also joined by several banana slugs, which are quite a site indeed. They wreak havoc on the tender plants in the nursery, so we got to give these guys flying lessons deep into the woods 🙂

More bones…
February 25th, 2007 by John

Buddy asked for a few more pictures from the Paris catacombs. How could I resist a simple request from a tired new father 🙂

The first shot, is at the entrance to the catacombs, deep under Paris. Then, there is another dark, moody shot of some piles. And finally, some of the scrawled words in the world of the dead.
